More Marty-ball for Chargers

Marty Schottenheimer will stay with the San Diego Chargers but turned down what looked like a bit more job security. So, even if his run of playoff losses continues next season, he could be banking on his marketability remaining just fine, even if he has to move elsewhere.

Folks in San Diego aren't convinced. In fact, in their eyes, next season is going to be "another bumpy ride." How many teams would settle for a bumpy 14-2 season?

Our Jim Corbett says it's more than just bad luck or bad coaching that has another Schottenheimer team going home earlier than expected.

As for what occurred on the field last weekend in the loss to the New England Patriots, Schottenheimer was more than willing to defend his decisions and weigh in on the post-game bad blood but said it just wouldn't be in good taste to divulge what he said to a couple of his players who received crucial personal foul penalties.

Isle economy gets mixed grade

While Hawaii's economy is performing significantly better in 2007 than in previous years, according to a nonprofit group's assessment of state economies, the state still is below average in the economic development and business health arenas.

The 20th Development Report Card for the States, released yesterday by the Corporation for Enterprise Development (CFED), gave Hawaii improved grades over last year's poor performance, in areas ranging from the vitality of the state's business to how well prosperity is shared among citizens.

CH2M HILL Recognized For Superior Safety At Xcel Energy's High

St. Paul — CH2M Hill announced that its LG Constructors construction arm has been honored with Minnesota OSHA's highest safety award for its ongoing work at the Xcel Energy High Bridge Combined Cycle generating plant. The construction team is closing in on 300,000 total work hours without a lost-time accident.

"This Star is the first awarded in the history of the State of Minnesota for new construction at a power generating plant," said James Collins, Director of OSHA's Consultation Program. The Minnesota Star (MNSTAR) is modeled after the federal OSHA Voluntary Protection Program.

Collins said that the MNSTAR program is unique because the workplace consultation assessment team provides a comprehensive safety and health assessment of the project, including hazard identification, training, and education.
